- CHINESE SSU-MA CH'IEN: 145-90 BC
-
- Ssu-ma Ch'ien became the court astrologer to
- Chinese Emperor Wu Ti of the Han dynasty. It was
- accepted practice in this era of Chinese history
- for the Emperor to have his own astrologer. Ssu-ma
- Ch'ien is famous for having written "Shih Chi"
- (Records of the Historian) which was a comprehensive
- chronicle of ancient Chinese history. In his waning
- years, he was suspected of disloyalty to the emperor
- and was castrated.
